Pisac

Pisac consists of two distinct areas: the archaeological park on top of the mountain and the colonial town below.

In the archaeological complex there are numerous squares and buildings, both for residential settlements and for ceremonial Pisacuse, and the oldest and largest known Inca cemetery. A little further down the complex of temples made of pink granite with ceremonial altars, fountains and the magnificent «Templo del sol» (Temple of the Sun). Around the ruins are extensive agricultural terraces that nestle into the curve of the mountains.

The markets for agricultural and handicraft products such as silverware, «Mates burilados», ceramics, straw hats, alpaca textiles, ponchos, musical instruments, paintings, antiques, queros (ceremonial vessels), jewelry, necklaces, ... have a long tradition. Every Sunday the «Varayocs» come from the higher-lying towns of Motupa, Saccaca, Viacha, Cotataqui and Paru Paru, in their typical clothing with the «Vara» (scepter of command) to celebrate worship in quechua in the church.Pisac
